Cabbagetown Short Film Festival

Founded in 1992, the Cabbagetown Short Film Festival is a unique showcase of some of the world’s best short films created by both experienced and emerging filmmakers. Located in the heart of Cabbagetown, the Short Film Festival regularly attracts thousands of people each September.

Of the hundreds of film entries that are submitted each year, the Cabbagetown Short Film Festival carefully chooses a select and diverse catalog of original productions of which to exhibit. A group of industry professionals adjudicates the works, and prizes are awarded in a range of categories including comedy, documentary, animation, and more.

This year, the Short Film Festival is happening on September 4th, 2019 at 8pm and we don’t want you to miss out on this one-of-a-kind, unique, and creative event!

Cabbagetown Arts & Crafts Festival

Friday, September 6th, 2019: 1pm - 7pm
Saturday, September 7th, 2019: 10am - 6pm
Sunday, September 8th, 2019: 10am - 6pm

The Cabbagetown Arts & Crafts Sale is held on the first weekend after Labour Day during the Cabbagetown Festival in the beautiful Riverdale Park, at the centre of the historic Cabbagetown. Founded in 1988, this event has become a great event to increase appreciation of the visual arts and foster community spirit. The Arts & Crafts Sale boasts around 180 artists and 20,000 visitors filling the park each year.

Artists set up tents to display their crafts along the walkways of Riverdale Park and visitors may stroll through to browse through and purchase their beautiful creations. There is plenty of food for sale at the event and picnic benches where you and your family or friends may enjoy the park. As if the weekend couldn’t get any better, the Cabbagetown Festival is happening at the very same time! Once you’ve gotten your fill of all the beautiful artwork, come on down to the festival to enjoy some more community spirit.

The Arts & Crafts Sale is an amazing community event that is a definite must-see!

Blair’s Run

september 8th, 2019

This year, the annual Blair’s Run is celebrating its 40th year! Each September, hundreds of runners from the area gather together to participate in this neighbourhood staple. Blair’s Run is a community event in support of Cabbagetown Youth Centre, with funds being raised through corporate or street teams competing for “fastest runner” or “most fundraised”.

Whether you’re running, jogging, or walking, be sure to join in on this 2 kilometer route around beautiful Cabbagetown, open for anyone from the ages of 2 to 70+. Athletes may sign-up as individuals or may also join either a previously existing or new team. Street teams are commonly organized by street so don’t forget to look for your street when you’re signing up!

Advance registration is open until September 7th! There is a $20 advance registration fee and a $25 fee for registration on Race Day.

 Cabbagetown Tour of Homes

September 15th

Historical Victorian architecture, colourful murals, good eats, and more; this is what makes up the beauty of Cabbagetown. So… why not get out, enjoy it, and learn more about this Toronto neighbourhood for absolutely zero cost?

Organized by the Cabbagetown Preservation Association (CPA), walking tours are led by experienced and knowledgeable CPA guides with the goal of showing and teaching you all there is to know about Cabbagetown. This year, the CPA has a special focus on the Toronto Necropolis, one of the city’s oldest cemeteries. Known as the resting place for numerous prominent Torontonians and important figures in Canadian history, this is a piece of Cabbagetown that you don’t want to miss. Free walking tours of the Toronto Necropolis and Cabbagetown are taking place this year on September 5th and 26th @ 6:30pm.

In addition to their walking tours, the CPA also holds a tour of hidden backyard gardens and private spaces, and a tour of homes in Cabbagetown. These are held every other year, in alternating sequence on the Sunday following the Cabbagetown Festival.

Cabbagetown Theatre Presents: Puss In Boots

 Another fantastic show put on by the Cabbagetown Theatre!

Puss In Boots needs to help his master with a much-needed image makeover. Along the way he meets the King of Cabbagetown and his lovely daughter Princess Arianna and of course that green Ogre who lives in the Swamp! All 'kitten' aside - this is purr-fect family fun!

Cabbagetown Festival Dance

September 7th @ 8pm

On September 7th, the Cabbagetown Boxing Youth Centre will be holding the Cabbagetown Festival Dance. The dance is open to everyone and definitely something you don’t want to miss. With live R&B, Soul, and Blues entertainment from The Little Magic Sam Band, the Cabbagetown Festival is a great way for you to show off your moves and meet some new people. Food and drinks will be provided!

The dance is happening from 8pm-12am at 2 Lancaster Avenue. There is a $20 entrance fee at the door, with all proceeds going toward the Cabbagetown Boxing Youth Centre’s youth programs.
